I read an article yesterday about windowless bedrooms and how they don’t pose a safety threat. “Windowless bedrooms in multi-family buildings don’t pose a safety threat to dwellers or detract from Calgary’s goal of being “socially inclusive,” according to a new city report”. Really??
I’m sorry, but I have an issue with this. Whenever you see pictures of a burning building it’s quite common to see people hanging out of a smashed out window and I ask myself, why do people break the windows? And then it dawns on me…because they need fresh air to breathe! What a concept. haha
Now that Calgary real estate developers are allowed to build windowless bedrooms, what are people to do in the unfortunate event of a fire? The sprinklers may extinguish the flames, phew…that was well thoughtout, but what about the smoke? A person doesn’t typically surcum to the flames, it’s the smoke that knocks them unconscious .
So I have to ask, where is the wisdom in the City of Calgary decision? Do you see a safety issue with allowing windowless bedrooms?
